My Laurie figure from mattycollector.com’s Watchmen series arrived today!

I love the little box details- the skull from her choker especially; it seems a lot of people outside Watchdom forget that yeah, Laurie goes around wearing a tiny skull necklace- though the card image is a little weird (she has everything but eyes,) and “ethereal beauty” isn’t the first description that comes to mind for her.

But the figure herself is very cool. Her little sheathy outer dress thing is some kind of rubbery stuff, so it actually does contact her bathing suit thing underneath differently (mostly T&A, but that’s… pretty much how the costume was designed, so). The sleeves are molded as part of her arms but are shaded to look like her flesh shows through the material. The did a pretty good job of it, too.

I like the face mold a lot- she looks more like Dave Gibbons’ later drawings, from commissions and the like after the graphic novel was published, but considering he got better at drawing anyway and his later Lauries have always been a bit prettier than she is in the GN (much like how his Nite Owl and Ozymandias drawings gradually became more traditionally handsome), I don’t mind at all.

She’s definitely an improvement on the Malin Akerman figure they released with the movie, so I’m pretty excited that I’m going to be getting Nite Owl, the Comedian, and Ozymandias to complement the movie line after this.
